Sometimes the year ends with wins we didn’t expect, and sometimes it delivers a stack of outcomes we wish had gone another way. Spokane felt both this season—elections lost, ordinances passed, and decisions made that will shape our streets, our budgets, and our business climate for years to come.
We don’t get to rewrite those results. But we do get to decide how we respond. And that’s where the real work—and the real hope—lives.
Change rolls in whether we’re ready or not. It tests our footing, asks us to adjust, and forces us to see what still matters when the dust settles. For Spokane’s business community, what matters hasn’t changed: safe streets, strong neighborhoods, a thriving downtown, and a city that listens to those who keep its economic heart beating.
Spokane is still worth fighting for—every block, every storefront, every worker opening their doors in the cold, hoping for a better December than the last. And even when decisions come down that make our work harder, the way we show up next is what determines whether Spokane stalls… or rises.
Rolling with the changes doesn’t mean rolling over. It means steering with intention—steady hands on the wheel, eyes forward, refusing to lose heart.
Here’s to a season of resilience, resolve, and a renewed commitment to building a cleaner, safer, stronger Spokane. The year didn’t write our ending—only the next chapter. And we’re the ones still turning the page.

Representing Spokane’s 3rd Legislative District, Senator Marcus Riccelli has long been a steady voice for collaboration and common-sense policy. A lifelong Spokane resident and Gonzaga graduate, he has focused his career on strengthening local health care, education, and economic opportunity. Before joining the State Senate, Riccelli served in the House of Representatives and worked as outreach manager for U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell.
