Dear Spokane Community,
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and with Black Friday only a week away, retailers are gearing up for the holiday rush. COVID pushed many of us toward the ease of online shopping — a few taps on your phone and a package appears on your doorstep within 24 hours. Convenient, yes. But where we choose to spend our hard-earned dollars matters.
When you shop online, that $100 brings little to no economic benefit to Spokane. When you spend that same $100 locally, it can create up to $300 in economic impact for our community.
As Spokane’s streets continue to feel safer and cleaner, I encourage you to carve out time this season to shop local. Visit the shops that make our city unique. Grab a meal at a neighborhood favorite. Snap a photo in a local store and share it — a small gesture that carries real weight for small businesses. Remind your friends of all the places worth visiting right here at home.
Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, and a joyful season of shopping local.

Spokane businesses need your voice now more than ever. On Monday night, City Hall will likely vote on the proposed commercial parking tax — a measure that would hit downtown at the very moment it’s fighting to recover. If you believe in a stronger, more vibrant Spokane, stand with us and say NO to the parking tax. Your voice matters. Your presence matters. Use the link below to sign up and testify, and let City Council know Spokane’s business community is paying attention.

Representing Spokane’s 3rd Legislative District, Senator Marcus Riccelli has long been a steady voice for collaboration and common-sense policy. A lifelong Spokane resident and Gonzaga graduate, he has focused his career on strengthening local health care, education, and economic opportunity. Before joining the State Senate, Riccelli served in the House of Representatives and worked as outreach manager for U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell.
Today, he continues to champion initiatives that move Spokane forward — improving access to care and supporting policies that create a thriving, equitable city for all.
