CANDIDATE CONVERSATIONS

The Spokane Business Association (SBA) is a 501(c)(6) non-profit business membership organization dedicated to encouraging voter engagement and education. To support that mission, SBA invited all candidates in each 2025 City Council race to participate in our candidate forum. All candidates were provided with the questions in advance to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for thoughtful responses.

While every candidate was offered the same platform to share their vision and priorities, not all chose to participate. We believe it is important for voters to know that the opportunity to engage was extended equally, and that the voices heard are those who accepted the chance to speak directly to the community.

WHAT'S AT STAKE: THE QUESTIONS

Question 1 -
Spokane has one of the highest overdose death rates in the nation. What steps would you take to address this crisis?

Question 2 -
The SBA has proposed an amendment to the Spokane City Charter that would restore the language of the 2023 Proposition 1, which passed with nearly 75% voter support. What is your view of this proposed amendment, and do you believe it can make a difference in our community?

Question 3 -
Beyond street-level homelessness and addiction in downtown Spokane, what do you believe is the biggest issue businesses face today? What role, if any, should the City Council play in helping businesses address it?

Question 4 -
Given its importance to our region, what would you do to bring more people back downtown to enjoy the beauty and amenities Spokane has to offer? Please share both short-term and long-term goals.

Question 5 -
What is your view of the current City budget? What steps would you take to stabilize Spokane’s budget challenges?

Question 6 -
What do you see as the top concerns for business owners and their employees, and how would you work to address them?

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

SBA ANNUAL DINNER

September 23rd, 2025

at The Spokane Convention Center

Doors Open at 4:45 PM

We are truly grateful for our amazing investors, and members, whose generosity and commitment make our work possible. Their support allows us to continue advocating for Spokane, ensuring our city remains a place where businesses can thrive, leaders can collaborate, and our community can grow stronger for generations to come. And while there are times when challenges seem overwhelming, it is in those very moments that our work—and the steadfast support of our sponsors—is needed most. For that, we thank you—today and always.
