The Spokane that shows up

Dear SBA Members and Friends,

This has been one of the hardest weeks our community has ever faced. At this point, more than 800 structures are gone, and over 700 families have lost their homes, many with their jobs and ways of life attached. And the stories just keep on coming. Stories of overwhelming loss. But also stories of immense inspiration and love.

And the generosity is tremendous and all around us! 2,500 individual gifts — many of them $5 and $10 — have already put $2.8 million to work for our neighbors. Firefighters from across the Northwest are sleeping in tents at our fairgrounds so they can hold the line. Our schools have wrapped their arms around every displaced student and family.

These two short videos, courtesy of our friends at KHQ / Q6, capture much of what is in all our hearts. They are really worth watching.

We've worked to make our SBA web page a place that captures much of what's going on: what's happening right now (refreshed every morning), how to get help, how to give wisely, and how this recovery will actually work:

Another weekend of thoughts, prayers, giving, heroic action…and thanks.

Warmly,

Gavin
