Dear Spokane Community,

SBA has worked hard over the past few weeks, meeting with members of the Spokane City Council to discuss our recent Legislative Blueprint. We’re encouraged to see all sides coming together to do what’s best for our city.

While many are celebrating Monday’s 7–0 vote as a victory, the reality is that the vote was only the sound of the starting gun—a signal that a new phase of this race has begun. We’ll reach the finish line only when enforcement takes place.

That enforcement can’t happen just over the next week or two; it must become an ongoing, ingrained course of action. If we start strong but return to people living on the streets by next spring, we’ll have given up on the race before crossing the finish line.

Let’s celebrate Monday’s progress, but keep our eyes on the prize. The prize for Spokane is clean, safe streets that allow businesses to thrive—and the compassionate work of moving people off the streets and into long-term recovery.

At SBA, we believe in saying YES to treatment and recovery, and NO to illegal activities.

Here in Spokane, participation is power. From East Sprague to North Division, from Kendall Yards to the South Hill  — every vote helps shape the city we live, work, and invest in.

So check your registration, make a plan, and mail in your ballot. This election, don’t sit it out — show up for Spokane. Together, we can unlock something bigger: a city that listens, responds, and moves forward.

In November, we’ll continue our conversation regarding the staggering vacancy rate in downtown Spokane—a crisis that reaches far beyond empty storefronts. Every vacant space represents lost opportunity, lost energy, and lost revenue.

When businesses close their doors, Spokane loses millions in potential tax dollars—funds that could otherwise support public safety, infrastructure, addiction recovery programs, and essential city services. Each darkened window downtown isn’t just a business that left; it’s a piece of Spokane’s economic engine gone idle.

Reversing this trend requires more than optimism. It demands leadership, accountability, and a shared vision that restores confidence in our city’s core. The Spokane Business Association remains committed to advancing real solutions that bring business back, strengthen community, and ensure that Spokane’s heart beats strong again.
